Benny Finocchiaro
Fannie Bay
Nominated by Mr Hugh Burton Bradley
Benny was born in Sicily, came to Australia as a young man and has lived in Darwin for many years.
Benny is best known for his exceptional skills as a wood worker. Being part of a small group of men, he likes to make quality furniture and other items mainly for donation, for charitable causes as auction items. This work is carried out at 'Studio Mb' in Gardens Hill. As well as being the advisor to this group, Benny teaches not only how to make the items but also to correct their mistakes.
Over the years, Benny has made many donations to Charity from his own work at home which has involved many hundreds of hours of his time and application over considerable periods.
Work of this kind involves the gifting of the product and the materials it is made from for fundraising at auctions,
The Catholic Church, it's priests and nuns are very happy beneficiaries of Benny's work, having made many beautiful liturgical objects from wood for use in Darwin's Catholic Cathedral.
Benny is a supporter of the Italian Society and has over the years been involved in the organisation of Greek Glenti.
