Ian Berry was a member of the Royal Australian Navy for 35 years. Upon retiring from the Navy, Ian participated as a volunteer in a range of activities.
Following the death of his adult son in 2013, his organs were donated. As a consequence, Ian is able to talk about the effects on families in similar situations. Among these are an ambassador for 'DONATE LIFE IN THE NT';
In 2006, Ian joined the Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise, became President in 2014 and since that time he's been an early riser, arriving at 6.15am to set up for the 7am Meeting for those attending in person and on ZOOM. He has been a Bulletin editor of the Club's magazine since 2018
Ian is also the bulletin editor for the Charles Darwin Probus Club.
Approximately 6 years ago, Ian witnessed a near tragic incident involving a child leaving Parap Primary School. Since then, Ian has been a
volunteer both morning and afternoon on most school days as a 'crossing monitor' for the children as they arrive and depart school.
From 2009 to 2013, Ian was the Treasurer for the Commerce Pints Hockey Club. He also spent 5 years as the coordinator for the Darwin Hockey Association where he manages the allocation and training of umpires.
Once a week, Ian does the announcing of the Quiz Night at the Darwin Buff Club.
Ian has been trying to retire for four years now, it's getting closer.
