Sue has volunteered for many years in a wide range of sectors. From being a Librarian in assisting students from multicultural and
Aboriginal backgrounds over a range of working roles and volunteering in the Veterans sphere.
Sue was a long standing member of the Scottish Darwin & District Pipe Band as a piper playing at functions, funerals and Remembrance Days.
Sue was a long-time Member of the Darwin RSL Pipe Band.
In 2016, Sue was an integral and vital part of a small dedicated team of the 'Bring Them Home' campaign that worked for over four years to bring home twenty two of twenty five Vietnam Veterans buried in overseas graves. Included in this was Corporal Reginald Hillier, who was the NTs only Vietnam Veteran killed during the Vietnam War.
Sue is a volunteer with the Vietnam Veterans Association NT and was it's Treasurer for over 21 years and Secretary for the past four years. In addition to this, Sue has been a Welfare Officer, caring for Veterans and families in their time of need.
Sue played a vital role in the establishment of a Veteran's Centre in the Rural Area to provide advocacy and welfare support for Veterans in the rural area.
She is a qualified DVA Compensation Advocate, assisting veterans in dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Sue is the Team Leaderand responsible for training all other advocates in Darwin and Tindal in Katherine.
In 2016, Sue initiated the Trauma Teddy group who meet once a week toknit 'teddies' for Red Cross. They have created over 300 teddies to date.
