Allan moved to Darwin in 1971 to join the North Territory Police in whichhe served for 31 years covering the length and breadth of the Territory. During his outback postings, Allan took the 'Blue Light Disco to many remote communities, bring fun and enjoyment to many children. Allan was a Board Member of Australia Day Council NT In 1980. He was also was involved in the initiation of Neighbourhood Watch. Allan was an elected member for Waters Ward for Darwin City Council for twelve years in which time he was supportive of many Community Events such as; Disengaged Youth and Adults with Disabilities previously at Leanyer, now located at Lakeside Drive Community gardens. Allan volunteers one day a week, serving breakfast to children at a local school.
Allan's interest and enthusiasm for Darwin and the TOP End's history has encouraged him to organise History Walks and car trips for focal seniors groups such as Probus and any visitors who may be interested.
At present, Allan is on the Committee for the Darwin Police Museum From 1994, Allan has hosted SERVAS (an international organisation for travellers) members in his home, free of charge.
He is a member of the Heart Foundation Walking Group in Casuarina, giving encouragement and inviting new people to attend as well as providing a weekly newsletter to local Heart Foundation members and friends, providing updates on local events and keeping them all connected.
Allan also opens his home and provides a free BBQ for friends and Heart Foundation Walkers three times a year. He is humble in his giving to others, either a tip run, lift, minding a neighbour's dog or just sharing a coffee and company with a friend. Allan loves Darwin and lives by the Police Motto, Serve and Protect - It's the Darwin way!
Allan's voluntary contributions do not pass by his many friends, with a plethora of letters of support for a Seniors Of Excellence Award from many citizens of Darwin.
