Ann Reed
I have known Anne since my arrival in Katherine in 1969. From that time I have had the pleasure of observing her tireless, 'behind the scenes' work across the wider Katherine community.
At the time I met Anne, her husband Mike Reed was the Member for Katherine, in Government and a very busy Minister. He was naturally away from Katherine quite a bit. Ann was at every event possible and a fantastic support in the community.
Ann has a very compassionate nature and always considered others who are in need of support in one way or another. She has particularly supported the Seniors who have needed transport to meetings, shopping or medical appointments. These people would have been seriously impeded or unable to attend without Ann's assistance. Ann doesn't wait to be asked for her assistance - she is always on the front foot, offering.
Some of the many areas that Ann has worked voluntarily over the years and current - include the Catholic Church, The Katherine and District Show Society, Katherine Senior Citizens the Red Cross Hostel from its inception, Hospital visits by the hundreds, the Katherine Museum and the Katherine Branch of the CLP as a tireless community worker.
There are many people in Katherine who I know Ann and her late husband Mike have helped with financial and emotional support, quietly behind the scenes. It is only since preparing this submission that people have been prepared to share that information.
Ann has the enviable ability of remembering people's names and dates of important events in their lives including birthdays of all their children and their names and making genuine inquiries about the welfare of families whenever she meets them in the streets or at functions. Ann is a very special, caring community person and it has been a pleasure to nominate her for this award for she is indeed a Senior of Excellence NT.
