ROY KINGHAM
WU LAGI
Nominated by Ms Valerie Wilkie - Seconded by Kathy Kastellorizius
Roy came to Darwin from South Australia in 1989, relocating with the Australian Government's Dept of Administrative Services. Roy maintained his Managerial position in the Dept following transfers and the privatisation of it, until his retirement.
Roy has been actively volunteering in the local Darwin community for many years and was elected President of the RSPCA for a term of four years.
Roy joined the Rotary Club of Litchfield/Palmerston in 2005 and has been on the Board as President for 2011 - 2012 and as Treasurer from 2012 - 2015. Roy has again taken on the role of President for 2020 - 2021.
Roy was a driving force behind the now successful, Rotary Broads Barra Bash, a ladies-only fishing competition held at 4 Mile Billabong in Kakadu from 2011 through to 2014. Unfortunately, the billabong was closed due to the spread of Salvinia, so the Club held the 2015 competition at Little Finnis River. Roy was head Marshall of the Rotary Broads Barra Bash until it wasabandoned in 2016.
During his time in private enterprise, Roy also arranged for his work's Apprentices to build a cool-room for the Litchfield Palmerston Rotary Club and apart from a small injection of funds by the Club, all of the work was donated by that firm.
Roy is an inspiration to fellow members of the Rotary Club and has steered the Club through some difficult times. He has always been the first to put up his hand to support the Club's projects and events.
It is also a great pleasure to welcome you Roy to the ranks of NT Seniors Of Excellence.
