MAURIE JOHNSON
BEES CREEK
Nominated by Raelene Willoughby - Seconded by Noel Land
Some of you may have seen Maurie at a variety of different community events, as he is easily noticeable in his light blue Kiwanis shirt with his long white beard.
One such event is the annual Darwin Carols by Candlelight which Maurie has been involved in for at least 13 years.
Maurie is a qualified electrician by trade, and he has been a huge asset to the Darwin Carols by Candlelight committee and event. It is through the dedicated work of many volunteers like Maurie, that Darwin Carols by Candlelight has now become a major annual event on Darwin's calendar.
Maurie single handedly brings all the equipment needed for the gate entry to the Amphitheatre and then packs it all up at the end of the event. He also tests and tags all the electrical equipment used by the food stalls. He helps lay cables for power ensuring the work adheres to Work Health and Safety requirements.
Maurie has been President and Vice President of Kiwanis Palmerston & Rural, for many years. He has set up and packed up; cut tons of onions and cooked many barbeques to raise money for worthwhile charities.
Maurie has been the Chairman for the Palmerston Australia Day Council for many years. He delivers a packed program that Palmerston locals look forward to every year.
Maurie also plays a big part in the Palmerston RSL, especially helping with the preparations for ANZAC Day.
Congratulations Maurie. With this Award, we welcome you to the Family of Seniors Of Excellence.
Many Community organisations are better off for the large number of tasks that Maurie willingly and enthusiastically undertakes.
