Greta is a friendly and welcoming member of the Darwin Bowls Club. Greta always arrives with a smile on her face, a skip in her step, and a willingness to volunteer, even at 80. She is always the first to volunteer for preparing meals, snacks or assisting with organizing games or events.
The Darwin Bowls Club is committed to the National Seniors Program which provides a designated week for which Seniors can participate in a socialized bowling program. Greta's commitment to the Seniors Program and her commitment to Darwin Bowls Club are what make her stand out as a worthy recipient of a Seniors of Excellence Award.
With her husband Shaun, they identified a deficiency in the NT for opportunities for Seniors to continue their bowling experience more than just one week a year during Seniors Month. So, Greta created a designated program specifically designed to maximise the participation of Seniors and beginners.
The Seniors Program accommodates participants of all ages and experience and includes a regulated Morning Tea Break where Greta often provides "Home Made" treats. Her infectious personality makes everyone feel at ease especially when learning a new skill as a senior.
Greta's commitment and passion together with her insistence on the very important socializing aspect of the Seniors Program, have seen this event grown to a strong commitment of 50-60 senior participants each week. This makes the Seniors Bowling Program one of the most successful programs ever introduced at Darwin Bowls Club.
