Shaun is a huge asset to the Seniors Program at the DarwinBowls Club. Upon joining the Club, Shaun was made aware that there wasa shortage of qualified Lawn Bowls Umpired required for the over 60's Carnival and as such he volunteered to undertake the necessary training requirement to fulfil this role. As such Shaun has freely dedicated many days and weekends to umpire for both the Darwin Bowls Club and Bowls NT.
Shaun's professionalism and dedication to this task is a credit to the type of man that he is, he always treats everyone the same way and sticks to the guidelines, etiquette and rules.
Being a retired engineer, Shaun is also the club's unofficial `Go-To' man in regards to maintenance issues. He has designed and build an outdoor movable stage so the club now has a designated entertainment area. This designated area enhances the laid back 'Territory Lifestyle' image that our visitors have come to love about the club.
Shaun has also designed and built a movable scoreboard which can be utilised during our Pennant and Carnival events. Other clubs have often commented on the vital importance that a person of Shaun's talents holds within any club. They even jokingly threatened to 'poach' him. Luckily for Darwin Bowls Club, Shaun's dedication to his club prevents him from `jumping ship'.
He is apassionate supporter of the Darwin Bowls Club Seniors Program, Darwin Bowls Club and Bowls NT.
What makes Shaun stand out as a worthy recipient of a Seniors of Excellence Award is his untiring and selfless provision of the 'all important' support and training for the weekly Seniors Bowling event. This began as a once a year event and now Shaun is there volunteering every single week.
He provides more than just skills training in lawn bowls, he also encourages seniors to be physically active in a fun way.
