Stephen Russell - Howard Springs
Stephen is a volunteer with the Howard Springs Volunteer Fire Brigade and has been an active member for 10 years. He is a Senior Crew Leader and as such, is responsible for the performance and safety of the crew he is assigned to oversee
on the fire ground.
Stephen is generally rostered on from 6am to 6pm every Monday to Friday and is on call 24 hours for seven days, every three weeks. He also fills in, on any time slot that is short of an available active member.
Apart from his service fighting grass fires, assisting at structure fires and attending motor vehicle accidents in the rural area, Stephen also volunteers in community help and awareness activities that the Brigade is involved in.
Other volunteer activities include his attendance at programs for strategic bum-offs for fire hazard reduction, general maintenance of Brigade assets, weekly vehicle checks and attendance at weekly brigade meetings.
The annual Fides Seniors Christmas Party, duty at the Super Cars, Burns Awareness courses, Cyclone Awareness preparations and in the organizing of other Brigade programs including open days and fundraising activities.
At all times, Stephen conducts himself in a manner that is a credit to the Howard Springs Volunteer Fire Brigade in dress, attitude, competence and his willingness to help at any time.
