Jeffery Dunn OAM - Parap
Soon after arriving in Darwin in September 1972, Jeffery Dunn joined Casuarina Lions Club and in 1975, became involved in chartering the Lioness Club of Casuarina. He has held most Club Board positions over the years including Club President at least twice and held executive roles within Lions International. By the late 1980's, Jeffery's commitment to Lions Club and its activities, saw him become the recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship for Dedicated Humanitarian Service.
The enthusiasm and ideas of Jeff, his club colleagues and those of other local Lions Clubs, took over the Beercan Regatta and developed it into an amazing, enduring, community event. The Darwin Beercan Regatta is a monumental success in combining community spirit and fundraising on a large scale. As a spectacle, it continues to attract local, interstate and international visitors from afar.
In giving back to the community, Casuarina Lions Club has also supported local soccer, AFL and ARL, other community groups and individuals. Lions Christmas Cakes and Mints and the Parap Road Safety Project are also other community activities that engage Jeff and other Lions club members.
As a small business owner, Jeff has encouraged young people to become involved in the marine industry and sailing pursuits by sponsoring at Northern Territory, National and World sailing events.
Jeff is a retired Army Reserve Officer having served more than 40 years as a Reservist. He is President of the Royal Australian Artillery Association which manages the Darwin Military Museum, still serves as a member of the Defence Reserve Association NT and was awarded an OAM General Division during the 1990s for his voluntary contributions to the community.
