CAROL MARY SMITH
LEANYER
Nominated by Lois Phelps - Seconded by Penelope Pomeroy
As a recent retiree Carol now passes on her wealth of knowledge to services like Retiree Help, where she has provided banking advice and support.
Carol has been a member of the Evergreens since 2011. She was the Treasurer for two years and has been on the committee on and off for 5 years. Carol has been involved in organising bus tours for the Evergreens, checking out places before planning, to ensure that the group can do the tour in the time allocated.
Carol formed the Knit 'n' Knatter Group in 2016. This group meets at the Karama Public Library on Monday mornings between 9am and 12 noon. The group knits or crochets blankets for the "Wrap with Love" Charity.
The Knit 'n' Knatter group has grown from just 6 people to now, 28 and mainly due to Carol's efforts. There are also 4 people who knit squares at home and deliver them to the library for members of the group to make into blankets. One member of the group also knits baby bonnets for Royal Darwin Hospital.
Carol also encourages children to learn to knit and crochet during school holidays.
Carol volunteers with Seniors @ the Library, at Karama Public Library where she promotes the meeting and encourages as many as possible to attend and support their local library. This provides another venue for Seniors to meet and interact with each other.
Carol. It is a delight to welcome you to the family of Seniors Of Excellence with this Award.
