Irene Kirk
From: Humpty Doo
Nominated by Marie Tyndall
Seconded by Jane Worthington
Irene Kirk has worked tirelessly for the Salvation Army in a variety of sites for the past 10+ years. These sites include Humpty Doo, Palmerston and Coolalinga.
After Irene's husband passed away 11 years ago she started to volunteer so her time was being used in a positive way. Irene has sorted, washed and cleaned, clothes, toys and various other items.
Irene turned 80 on the 18th August and is still volunteering at the Coolalinga Store but has gone from 5 days per week to 3 — 4 times per week, this due to some knee problems and difficulty with walking. Not daunted by her pain and challenges, Irene still greets people as they enter and leave the shop.
Irene's dedication for volunteering at the Salvation Army shop is second to none, and her passion has been infectious and has assisted her with being able to encourage other people to volunteer within the Salvation Army.
Irene takes pride in being able to contribute to her community
