Mr Leo Izod - Night Cliff
Leo was born in Melbourne in 1934 and travelled to Darwin with his parents in 1946 where he finished his education and went to work in the family business, Izod Motors. Leo’s involovement with the Territory tells the most amazing story of hard work, courage and a deep, abiding love of family
In his later years, Leo has collected an amazing collection of machinery used in the development of the NT including steam, diesel and petrol, some of it more than 100 years old and found in the some of the most remote places. He has repaired, rebuilt an amazing collection that is displayed at the old QANTAS Hanger in Parap, preserved as working mementos and static displays of our history.
Leo also has a most incredible collection of books outside of the Territory Collection in our Library, written about the Notrthern Territory by Territorians or those with serious interest in Territory History. Leo is a Territorian personified, 81 years of age, married with 28 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren
Leo was nominated for his Award by Dr. Daryl Manzie
