Mr David Pearson - Nakara NT
David Pearson, now 75 years of age, estimates that he has participated in over 40,000 hours of voluntary service to the community and isn't ready to stop yet!
David came to Darwin from Sydney in 1992 with his wife Marie-Louise and twin sons Sean and Stephen. He quickly settled into the Territory lifestyle by fully merging himself into the community. His professional IBM computing skills, his accounting/ commerce background and his long history of involvement in athletics, rugby, boxing, and a general love of all sports were skills highly valued in our Darwin community. David always wanted to make a difference by encouraging people to give back to the community for what it provides.
David has voluntarily contributed to these community organisations in the following ways:
• The Government House Foundation of NT - as a committee member and Chairman for 13 years. The Foundation focuses on the preservation of our own Government House and surrounds. He actively worked on an educational information pack about the House and ran many Balls as fundraisers to develop and deliver the Water Garden and extended landscaping of the magnificent gardens surrounding Government House. He was recently awarded the Administrator's Medal for his services to the Foundation.
• As an active member of the NT Seniors race Day with now deceased Cyril Young for more than seven years. This event is now one of the highlights of Seniors Month in Darwin.
• David has been a regular assistant in the Chinese Museum for the Chung Wah Society helping tourists and visitors to understand the Territory's Chinese heritage.
• For 12 years, David was a sports commentator for Radio Top FM Community Radio, promoting local sports, presenting sports news and encouraging an active lifestyle through sports.
• He is still Public Officer of the 'Beat The Heat' organisation that provides a forum for young people to race in a safe environment, a Police Car, instead of honing around Darwin streets.
• David has been a member of the Rotary Club of North Darwin for ten years and after a period of absence, he has joined the Rotary Club of Darwin and will with other Rotarians, be at the Darwin Show selling tickets as part of their fundraising activities.
• And David has been presented with a Red Cross Award for his donation of 100 full blood donations.
David Pearson is a positive Community minded person and thoroughly deserving of this nomination for a Seniors Of Excellence Award.
