David Anthony Waiters
Nominated by Adrian Watters
Seconded by Natalie Tozer
Along with his wife, Valerie Jean Walters, David has been attending the NT Police Museum in a voluntary capacity for at least 15 and 20 years respectively, 3 days a week for 5 to 6 hours each day.
Duties for both David and Valerie have been, classification and digitization of historical records; identifying and safe storage of historical items; Office Bearers; general administration; fielding and responding to historical enquiries from all over Australia and indeed, from around the world. It would be fair to say that both David and Valerie have in fact, done a lot more than these tasks to keep the wheels in motion.
David's specialty has been digitizing all of the museum's photographs and attempting to identify time, place and person/s in the many thousands of photographs.
David has also written a number of computer programs for the office to assist in making the various and numerous tasks that he and Valerie undertake, easier to manage.
Up until the Covid-19 pandemic, David has for several years, voluntarily given 1 day a week of his time in a similar role with the Northern Territory State Reference Library.
