Delma's volunteering commenced way back in 1957 when she was involved in a sausage sizzle at a school of 20 pupils. They raised 1 pound and four shillings which was worth quite a bit in those days.
Delmais next role in fundraising was for Royal Darwin Hospital 7B Paediatric Ward.
In the early 1990's Delma became a Darwin Lioness Club President for 3 years including Lions District 201 S3(SA/NT) Lioness Liaison.
Then along came the 'world famous' Beer Can Regatta, a well-known Community event run by Lions of which she was the Vice President. This outstanding event has endured the years and has raised a lot of many for the many causes that Lions Club
have supported over the years.
Other roles in her fundraising ventures included Hospital Auxiliary fundraising and Christmas in the dry which ran for three consecutive years. This event was a way of thanking the staff after a couple of major trauma events which impacted on the
hospital including the Bali Bombings.
Delma's current volunteer roles include:
• Share the dignity Collection and distribution of sanitary items to agencies to give to women on the street or who cannot afford to buy these essential items. Nationally, group campaigning to remove tax from these items. Buying vending machines to be installed in safe places for women to access
items at no cost.
• Make a Wish Foundation. As a member Delma is involved in meeting and greeting children when they come to Darwin
• Red Cross
