Jim as he is affectionately known, was born in Victoria in 1939. He is married, has three children and five grandchildren, all living in Darwin. He has led a very busy life with a lengthy association with the Military. He has also involved himself in a voluntary capacity in many NT organisations.
• Since 1982, Jim was a member of the Royal Australian Artillery Association, serving as its President for six years.
• He was also a member of the National Servicemen's Assn involved in matters of particular relevance to military observance day such as, ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day and the recent laying of a time capsule recording National Service in the NT.
• Jim is also a Life Member and NT Treasurer of the Defence Reserves Assn (NT).
• He is apast Vice President and Public Officer of the Totally and Permanently incapacitated Ex- Service men and women Assn (NT)
• He was a Foundation Member, Life Member, Trustee and State Representative of the 107th Field Battery Royal Australian Artillery Assn and saw active service in Vietnam.
• He is Member of Veterans Australia and a member and past President of Vietnam Veterans Assn of Australia (NT)
Jim has been a member of the Darwin Speedway Riders and Drivers Assn for many years and worked in the capacity of Secretary and a Committee Member. Jim is aLife Member.
He is a past Member of Palmerston and Rural University of the Third Age
A major interest in Jim's life has been Rotary since 1982. His involvement in Rotary is incredibly extensive, having held numerous major positions within the organisation including being a committee member of Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) which provides life-saving or dignifying surgery to children
from developing countries...mainly East Timor for this area.
Not unlike Jim's dedication to Rotary, Jim assisted in the formation of Darwin Probus Club, holding the position of District Governor's Zone Representative and Treasurer for the 2010 Probus Rendezvous Conference, Vice President, Secretary, Public Officer, President Elect of Palmerston Combined Probus Club and Rotary District Probus Chairman.
Jim was also involved in the establishment of the Probus Games in 2014, now an annual event between the four local Probus Clubs of Darwin, Charles Darwin, Mararra and Palmerston.
Jim is also a member of the Palmerston Fifties + Club and an occasional member of the Palmerston Seniors Songsters who perform at numerous venues around Darwin including Darwin Hospice and other local Seniors venues.
